Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is located in the southern tip of Baja California Sur in Mexico. It is a top destination for locals and foreigners. If you want to avoid the holiday traffic of tourists, consider going during the low seasons. Plus prices are cheaper! The beaches are beautiful and you will find plenty of watersports to enjoy.

Cabo San Lucas was our first international adventure together as a couple. It is a place to relax and at the same time you’re still able to explore the area without much difficulty. The only difficulties we encountered were learning to navigate through some rough roads with potholes and getting to know the area at which we stayed at. This can be accomplished by being a cautious driver (ex. Looking ahead for “accidents” that might happen around you and looking out for pedestrians who may walk directly into your path,) and printing out maps with directions to get you to your intended destination and back. One advice we do recommend is traveling during the day to familiarize yourself with where grocery stores, fuel stations, police stations, and first aid stations are located just in case.

Once you have determined that you have covered all your bases, you can proceed with your trip and enjoy the many choices of things to do and places to see. We arrived in Cabo during a Mid-October evening around 5pm and had a struggle locating the condo that we’d reserved. The small streets and street signs are very hard to read, since many roads aren’t well lit. Within fifteen minutes of circling through we finally located our place of stay. Luckily enough we arrived on a Thursday evening and were treated to a night-time art walk downtown, which happens every Thursday in San Jose del Cabo. All the local artists gather here in hopes to attract tourists to purchase their paintings or handmade souvenirs. It’s very beautiful to see the artwork displayed and get a feel of the Mexican culture.

We hurried back to our condo in hopes to get ready and take advantage of the still young night. After picking up some snacks for the road at a department store called Mega, we bravely trekked through the night to Cabo San Lucas. One of the places we wanted to visit was a nightclub called El Squid Roe. People who visit Cabo must experience the nightlife and what it has to offer. This place caught our attention among the many other clubs lined down the street because of its loud music blaring and from online reviews. It’s all about the music, meeting new people, the alcohol and good vibes. Oh and did we mention that the clubs are 18 years and up?!? By the way, the drive back to our condo was so amazing at night with the whole city lit up.

The following day, after feeling so adventurous driving through the city at night, we decided to view the most iconic, nature made attraction that is famous within Cabo San Lucas: The Arch or El Arco. For a 100 pesos per person, you can take a glass bottom boat from the beach and through somewhat wavy swells. Word to the wise, you may experience some “sea sickness” depending on the currents. On the way to the arch, the boat operator will make stops for everyone on the small boat to view small fishes and rock formations that resemble creatures. Use your imagination! If you bring a good camera, take advantage of the fact that the operators can take your picture in front of the arch. After viewing the arch, you’ll be given a chance to spend time on either beach of your choice: Lover’s Beach or Divorce Beach. You’ll know why the beaches are given these names when you’re there. TIP: be sure and bring snacks and beverages and most of all, bring all your trash with you! You can also let the boat operator know what time you want to get picked up from the island and return to shore. We enjoyed the sun and the hot beach weather so much that we ended up laying out on the beaches in front of the hotels. We also stopped at the many beaches along the highway en route to our condo before dusk settled.

The next day, we gathered our maps, stopped again at Mega to get snacks and beverages, filled up our fuel tank, and off we went to a small town called El Pescadero. The scenery on the way to El Pescadero was so peaceful and beautiful. After walking around town, we decided to proceed onto our adventure and headed over to the next town called Todos Santos (“All Saints”).

Todos Santos is a coastal town about an hour away drive from Cabo San Lucas. This enchanting little town features local art galleries and souvenir shops. You might also find artists at work. We met a very friendly Mexican artist working on a Dia de los Muertos painting who took the time to show us around his shop, and shared his beautiful artwork with us. After we meandered through the small town and stopped at local shops for souvenirs, we worked up an appetite. We located a small outdoor restaurant at the corner of the town and had some delicious fish tacos. Before leaving Todos Santos, we couldn’t help but stop and take a picture in front of the famous Hotel California. It reminded us both of home due to the peaceful and serene feel of the town.

Our adventure doesn’t stop here. We had previously booked a couple’s adventure which began with us getting picked up from our condo and chauffeured to Migrino Beach. At this location, our itinerary included riding ATVs and horseback riding through the beach and on the trails. That same day we had our flight out of Cabo San Lucas and headed back to California. Although our trip soon came to an end, our memories of Cabo will forever live in our heart.
