PHILIPPINES – How To Stay Cool in the Philippines

How To Stay Cool In The Philippines?

POSTED JULY 1, 2017

Although we visited during the cool months, the weather in the Philippines went well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit when we were there. As a matter of fact, it was already in the 70s at 5:30am and you could feel the humidity rising. Due to not being used to the high temperatures, we had to be ready to protect our skin and to stay hydrated. At the same time, we wanted to enjoy the islands and explore without being restricted by the sun!

These are some of the things we packed and recommend you include with your luggage as well:

Sun Block

It may seem too common to bring, but at times we forget to bring it with us. You don’t want to forget your sun block as the sun rays can be very dangerous. The last thing you want is a huge sunburn, so make sure to pack this.

Portable Face Fan

We found these face fans to be very useful at all times. We used them constantly when riding public transportation and when walking around the markets. It’s a cheap way of keeping cool and during the month that we were in the Philippines, we did not need to change the batteries.

Spray Bottle

As weird as it may seem to be carrying around a spray bottle with you, you will be happy you did this. In 100 degree weather, spray bottles come very handy. You feel hot? Spray your face with cool water!

Hats

Make sure to pack your hat or buy a straw hat in the Philippines. They will help keep your head cool and protect your face from the sun.

Light Clothing

Your choice of clothes is important and you want to make sure you bring lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton. It’s a good idea to pack shorts, sun dresses, blouses, lightweight pants, polo shirts and t-shirts.

A Face Towel

We highly recommend you carry one of those small gym towels everywhere you go. When using jeepneys, they come in handy to cover your mouth from the smoke from other jeepneys. You can also use them to wipe your sweat from your face and body. We took a few and we were happy we did.

Umbrella

The use of an umbrella to protect one’s self from the sun is a common thing in the Philippines. We carried our umbrella everywhere until we forgot it once in the bus. It helped us protect our skin from the heat and it really was not a burden to carry it.
